Broadland Drinks loves supporting Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), who is working to create a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free.
This World Ocean Day we’re very proud to announce the launch of our new Waipapa Bay paper wine bottle. Just like the glass version, a donation from every bottle sold goes to WDC and their work to make the seas safe for whales and dolphins.
The ocean covers almost three quarters of our planet and is home to an incredible abundance of life, including 90 or so species of whales, dolphins and porpoises. But for all its beauty, the ocean can be a dangerous place for whales and dolphins, and to save them, we need to protect their home.
The WDC has been putting the funds raised from sales of Waipapa Bay to excellent use. For example, they’re working across the globe to protect whales, dolphins and porpoises, including a project in Scotland where they’re collaborating with creel fishers to trial new types of fishing gear to reduce entanglements of humpback and minke whales.
We’re sure the additional bottle format of Waipapa Bay will help raise even more funds. Importantly the paper wine bottle (Frugal Bottle™) offers a string of environmental benefits. An independent Life Cycle Analysis which tested it alongside bottles made from glass and PET plastic, shows:
It has
the lowest carbon footprint – 84% lower than a standard 440g imported glass bottle and 34% lower than a 100% recycled plastic bottle.
It uses only 15 grams of plastic, up to
77% less than a plastic bottle.
Its water footprint is at least
four times lower than a glass bottle.
Additionally, the paper bottle is made from
94% recycled card and is fully recyclable and the plastic liner separates easily for recycling with mixed plastics, or incineration with general waste.
Our Waipapa Bay Sauvignon Blanc is sustainably produced too, from the grapes grown in the renowned region of Marlborough, to bottling at our sustainably powered BRC AA+ winery in Norfolk. The wine itself is delightfully crisp and beautifully balanced and has been recently recognised with both an IWSC Bronze and a coveted LWC Silver award.
